hey, not so fast ...
You are neglecting temperature. 
Say that you have a bucket of fluid. If you compress it from the top,
(assuming incompressible fluid) the temperature will rise -> work.
Also the increase in the speed of the fluid (for a pump) -> more work.

I don't know which ones are the significant phenomena here.

Isn't it easier just to pull the pump out and read the rating :^).
