CV joint

Anybody know whether it's possible to buy (how much and where) *just* the
outer CV joint for an '84 4000SQ (5 cyl)?

I thought that I was going to use the joint off a 2wd, 4-cyl, parts-car and
banged on the joint trying to get it off for the better part of an hour,
until I realized that it was smaller in dia. anyway.  The previous owner
had run it with broken inner and outer boots, and there were blued spots
(and wear) on the outer race of the outer CV joint.

I'm just trying to get this thing on the road, it's snowing, and the
5000CSQT needs to take it's place getting sundry things fixed.  Meanwhile,
my German wife gets to drive the always dependable '78 Honda (the "roller
skate") to and from school, a hundred miles away (she can't drive the 5000
because the brakes don't always work, and only the "high" beams work).  If
you think that I should take it to a competent mechanic, let me tell you
that I learned long ago with my 914 (and more recently with the 5000) that
*I* can mess up a car just as well as these mechanical *technicians*, and
it costs me a lot less!
