Re: Spark-plug wires

Walter's mention of spark plug wires brought a story to mind...

My '84 4000q experienced a slightly ragged idle several months ago, I thought
nothing of it, just filed it away for future reference. One day coming down a
hill I let off the gas, clutch in, and it died. I pulled to a stop and
cranked, and cranked, and cranked. You get the picture, it wouldn't start!
Not wanting to lay out $50 for a tow, I cracked open the hood to look for an
obvious failure. It was right there in front of my nose....my coil wire had
burned itself in two! I presume a small gap had opened in the lead and it
generated enough heat whilst jumping this gap to fry the wire. A new coil
wire from the spare parts bin completed the fix.
