re: Audi Parts (battery cables)
Steve Powers posted 20 Dec:
My '85 4000q is in need of a new battery cable. Most specifically,
I need the positive cable. Unfortunately, I am not exactly willing
to part with the $100+ that all of the local Audi dealers are asking.
I want the OEM version as it has some auxillary spade connections
which are used by several circuits (including my stereo system) in
the car. I haven't located a satisfactory aftermarket cable which
wouldn't require major rewire of several connections.
Is there a good mail order outfit which handles battery cables? I
have tried all of the usual places seen in European Car to no avail.
A piece of 2AWG wire with a ring terminal at one end and a battery
terminal at the other just isn't worth $100. I'd gladly pay about
$30 or so.
thanks bunches

Steve, you said that you tried the "usual" suppliers from European Car. Did you
try "New Dimensions" (800) 637-2781 ?. They sell a line of low gauge wiring
sets for VWs dubbed "Massive Overkill". I purchased an alternator-battery
ground strap, and a battery-starter cable from them for my 16V Scirocco. The
cables were well made and much more reasonably priced than your dealers quote.
Even if they don't currently carry the cables for Audi, perhaps you could use
some "gentle persuasion", mention the list, and Audi's affinity for using under
gauged wiring.
Good Luck & Keep us posted!
