i have enquired about this several times at my dealer.  the advice i
got was not to bother because they told me that 99% of all the filters
that get replaced are perfectly clean and serviceable.  in their
opinion people are wasting their money.

i have also seen a dealer's service sheet where the fuel filter
is listed as a "lifetime" part.

just passing on what i have been told.
