I feel moved to comment on the fuel filter service life question. I have
changed mine at 25k and never had a fuel inj related failure. I should
preface this by saying that this applies to my 4000qs. I've always gone with
the stock Bosch filters. I also discovered a fuel pre-filter in line with the
primary high pressure filter. It's before the pump/accumulator assembly, just
after the tank really. I changed mine on the '84, and got out some good thick
residue. It might be worth it for 4000q owners to look into it...the smaller
plastic filter was $10 at a local parts store!
FWIW, I've always heard that it only takes one tank of "bad" gas to ruin a
fuel filter; and with fuel inj components costing so much....
Actually, I bet Ned Bennett may be the man to resolve this question!
Any thoughts?
