I have found that on my old 400 coupe that hunting is caused by a
vacuum leak.  The leak may be from a bad hose or from the unit
that creates the vacuum.  In my case it was the vacuum motor unit
that caused the problem.  I tool the unit apart and cleaned the 
orifice and flap valve that controls the vacuum and all was fine.
Take the unit off the car and the rest should be obvious.
