Re[2]: CD player for Coupe GT

Thanks to all for the input. Somehow the original post digressed into
many good tips on body mods for speaker upgrades (I saved them all).
What I really wanted was previous experience on various CD models that
would fit (depthwise) into the stock dash aperture. I have a Pioneer
cassette now with 6 inches depth (measured from behind the faceplate).
That unit is already tight with cables attached. I'm looking for a 4
output, 12-15W RMS CD player preferably with an amber display and
     removable faceplate.

Obviously with a knife and a tin snips you can put any size rear speakers
into an Audi coupe. We put a nice pair of 9 1/2" in my son's '82. If you
wish to use the front dash and not cut the door panels or you want a six
speaker system: remove the side air vents in the dash, this will give you
access to the screws holding in the speakers. Speakers and grills are one
piece but the grills are plastic and the speakers can be cut free. Actually I
think I used a hot soldering gun tip to "cut" the plastic lobes and then
remelt them around the new 4-4 1/2"
two-ways. Make sure what you buy fits inside the grill. Work slowly and
carefully and you should be OK. Any single play CD of the DIN size should fit
in the dash but I have found that they tend to skip in a tight suspension car.
Rear multiplayers are more stable because there's more room in the unit for
damping.
And for the readers ou there, yes Virginia just pry to cover off your
dash switch and use a small needle nose to take that grain of wheat bulb out.
The ABS switch has two if I recall.
   Good luck.
