Glen,
Found my new EC waiting for me at home last night. After reading the aricle
on VW's cross flow engine I did some basic calculations and think those
pistons might be worth looking in to as a way to increase displacement of a
TCQ. Those pistons have a lower compression height than the pistons in
earlier VW's and Audis. My guess is about 3mm lower. If so then when used
with the 144 mm rods you would have a 2.3L motor with about a 7 - 7.5:1 CR.
You would have to bore the rod from 20 to 21mm for the wrist pin to fit.
There is enough promise in these pistons I think it's worth checking out.
