voltage problem?

I installed a sony CD player (5070U) in my 86 5000S last summer and have
been quite pleased with it.  Unfortunately, it has a problem on cold
mornings.  The radio portion works fine, but the CD player, well, the best
short explanation I can give is to say that it skips.  The first logical
thought is that it is a problem with the unit, but consider this -- it works
fine when the engine is off! I doubt its a battery problem, as I had the
problem again this morning after a 200 mile trip last  night (i.e., it's
well charged).  Is there a problem with voltage fluctuations when the car is
cold?  (Only in winter?)

Any ideas?
