Fuel pump relay:  Should be able to remove the relay sockets w/o the install
of a new box.  FYI, the early Scirocco's had a recall on the fuel pump relays
becuz they ran so hot - tended to eat the fuse box.  My guess is that the fix
for your problem may be available at the vw dealer in the fuel pump relay
remote kit (about 30.00).  Don't have my bentley for a cross ref, but would
bet that the 80-81 scirocco's with electronic ingnition have the same fuel
pump relay circuit as the q's.
