I have been running Syntec in my 87 4000S 4-cyl for about 2 years and
had very good results. The engine has over 130K miles on it and uses NO
oil between changes. The intervals are around 3000 miles, but sometimes
run longer due to laziness. I autocross the car 3-4 times a month during
the summer and tend to bounce off the rev limiter during a hard run. If
it was going to use oil, this would be the time. It also serves as my
daily driver. If it's the oil, it must be pretty weird...
I too am skeptical about the alleged 50k Synthoil. I would rather spend
a few bucks changing oil than risk it.
