The detergent properties of the synthetics will clean around the engine seals
much better than conventional parafin based oils.  the cleaner the area
around the seal the more likely the seal will leak if it is worn...  Suggest
replacing the seals or switching back to the conventional oils untill warmer
weather makes the seal replacement easier.  

Mobil 1 used to do a seminar on the synthetic oil propperties and one  point
I remember is exactly what you pointed out, 4/5 oil changes produces leaks, a
common problem and a strong point for the cleaning properties inherent to
synthetics
