TSD Rally newbie
I know some of you are active in the rally scene, or ex-rallyists. I
need good advice for a first-timer. I am going to run the Ohio Winter
Rally on Feb. 4-5. I have only run one "fun" type rally before, but I
have the general idea of what to do. It is a TSD rally that will have
speeds according to the current weather conditions. I think all roads
will be public roads, no wacky ProRally type trails here. (I hope)
I will be running an 87 4000S, FWD, and have a killer set of Hella
lights, a reasonably good set of all-season tires (all I can afford for
now), and a lot of enthusiasm.
What do I really need? I have arranged to borrow a CB radio, tow-rope
and hand winch (come-along), along with the required calculator,
clipboards, flashlights, and misc. tools, shovel, etc.
I don't expect to be really competitive, but would rather not finish
last.
BTW, the rally is about 200 miles long, 8:00pm-8:00am. They assure me in
the registration papers that there are no TSD traps, and the goal is to
keep the driver on course. In other words, it's not really hard, but
it's not a walk through the park either.
