Re: TQC control arms & computers
Hi Dave,
The complaint Mr Deltergo had with his 83 urq (European version) was that
performance went flat at full throttle about 4k rpm. It's been a while but
that's the gist of the complaint.
The problem was a broken wire on the temperature sensor by the throttle.
According to Ned Ritchie, the computer requires a temperature signal (among
others) to calculate the timing off idle. In the absence of this info a
detuned default is selected at higher rpm's to prevent pinging which can't
be "heard" by that system.
We called Ned R 1st & he had the info that made our job easy, but in time
we would have found the problem by doing a voltage & continuity test at the
big connector on the computer.
I found another source for Bosch info..especially later cars..at Bosch
itself (almost seems too logical). He's an instructor at Bosch in
Broadview Ill, answers their tech line & has a diagnostic shop of his own
somewhere in the greater Chicago area. If anyone is truly stumped & has
quantitative info I'll try & facilitate a solution. It's like talking to God.
Read your packet on the urq again the other night, Dave. They mention a
lot of parts that came off the 5000 turbo, even struts, but not control
arms by name...silly Krauts.
Hope your clutch & remuddling projects are going well!
