Re: Differentials

A little reading of John Buffum's book might give some insight into driving
th q's in less than ideal conditions... I have driven a 91CQ and a few
200tq's and 80 q and found regardless of snow setups the limit of adhesion
throttle on power (even under- as in the 80) is too quickly attained (exc.
studs, I guess)... The advantages of the awd should definitely make for
superior driving at the limits of adhesion, audis successful race and
ProRally programs, were after all the reason you have the systems on the q's.
I thoroughly enjoy the ProRally attitude of driving and used to race a
scirocco in this environment, I will be the first to admit that the q's are
more than a handful at the limit, not at all convinced that any tire will
correct this trait. Interesting however is that playing with power on
throttle steer in dirt with snows brings the perfect carved arcs you would
expect from a awd car.

Even Buffum himself admits the q's exacting driving skills... this months'
Grassroot Motorsport has a little insight on his thinking....
