Re: S4 20v vs S2 10v
Eliot, my thinking is that the main reason the early 5ktq is more easily
tweeked is the simplicity factor: 7.8 compression and a basic cis system
that responds most favorably to tweeking because the mechanical injector
system is good in excess of 400hp. The S4 uses a higher compression and
electronic FI components, and the drivetrain is definitely straining at hi hp
vs the 5k stock component recommendations up to 450hp.
The S4 uses (dave L?) a bleed at the compressor that maintains the boost
pressure between shifts, vs the RS2/stock turbos do not have this feature.
Re: The center coils: my guess is this is a vital component when running
hiboost with hi compression, not so key when using the low comp motor.
Re: The overboost mode: Dodge actually gets the kudos for this feature, my
stock GLH turbo (85) had this overboost pressure (10sec @11psi then 9.0)
feature... BTW I talked to ned about putting this feature on my stage 1 box
over 2years ago, before the S4 was even out with this idea. He was very
noid about running this high pressure and was skeptical re its benefits, then
2 mos after our discussion EC mag did the article on the S4!
Eliot, with the obvious benefits of the v8 and the small S4 turbo, I would
think a dual s4 setup would make the v8 smoke... Just dreaming. Been
keeping my eyes open here and the other side of the pond for anyone doing
mods on the v8, figuring the racing program parts have to find the street at
some point, but no avail. If I come across, I'll let you know, if you do
please send a note...
A 11/2 hoiur trip to Ned sounds like a nice outing for your v8, and a good
educational audi trip to me, I'm hoping my work sends me out that way some
time this year, I definitely owe Ned some good beers for his R&D services...
When I did the mods on my Dodge turbo (220hp) I was in unchartered waters,
nice to have Ned almost always on the right course...
