Coupe numbers

Does anyone know how many Coupe GTs were imported to the US in '81? I
understand that was the first year and that they didn't arrive until June. I
have one that was purchased in Oregon in June '81, the first sold by that
particular dealer. Can anyone explain how to read the VIN so I can determine
more info about the car?
