Increase performance of 5000 CSQ?

My '88 5000 CSQ (no turbo) is a great car. However, I had the chance to
drive my father's new Maxima and now I want more performance. What options
are out there to get another 30-50 horsepower out of the 2.3l 5 cylinder?

The car has approx. 105k on it, so it may need some work anyway (although)
it still doesn't burn any oil and the dealer said it should go 200k without
any trouble). I'm not a very experienced "do it yourselfer" so I'm
particularly interested in easy things I can do, or staged upgrades I can
pay for over time.  Or perhaps I should start looking for a 5000 TQ.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
