Fletch,
Can you elaborate a little about the Watkins Glen event? You
mentioned instruction. What kind of instruction is given? Who are the
instructors and will there be any one-on-one time with the instructor(s)?
Does the car need to be specially prepared for the event other than pass
a basic safety inspection?
TIA,
Zafer
Zafer,
There is almost nothing but one on one instruction. As a matter of fact
nobody is allowed to solo on the track without being signed off by an
instructor. Last year I had about 6 total hours of class room instruction,
and there was approx. 3.5 total hours of on track time. The driving
instructors for last year were all from the QCUSA, but if I do a joint venture
with the BMW club, there will be quite a mix. Instruction starts with basic
vehicle dybamics, proper driving position, stopping techniques, turning
exercises, and basic track driving & ettiquette.
As for the car, no special eqpt. is needed, although sometimes it is desired.
Each car MUST pass the safety inspection. New brake pads all around are
recommended, as is a brake system flush. Tires must be of legal tread, unless
they are racing slicks. The QCUSA provides helmets.
There will be a detailed packet sent out by headquarters in the near future.
Any more Questions?
Fletch
