Transmission Linkage


A few months ago, I had the clutch replaced in my 86 5000s.  Since then 
it is very hard to get into either 5th or reverse.  I'm sure that they 
did not set up the shift linkage properly.  My Bentley says that there is 
a special tool for this.  Has anyone had experience with adjusting the 
linkage and is the tool absolutely necessary?  Could there be another cause?
