Re: 1985 4000s knock sensor question

   Glen,

Is the MSD kit only for monitoring knock, or will it sense and adjust
ignition timing too? If not, do they have an after-markt knock sensor? Are
you familiar with the aftermarket knock sensor from J&S Electronics? The J&S
   unit is about $425.

Not a direct answer to your question, but one guy locally (misremember his
name) had fitted a Saab APC (?) controller to his UrQ. It's a knock sensor
(and computer) that diddles the wastegate. 'Twas a pretty big box, as I
(very vaguely) recall, maybe 1x4x6 (inches). Seemed to work, all I remem-
ber was boost over 15psi, his little "light" (to indicate when the com-
puter was "backing off" the boost) would flicker just a bit, and seriously
fast. (In fact, that was what convinced that the maybe, once fixed up, my
car might be worth keeping in spite of its reliability/performance [or
more accurately, total lack thereof]!)

If I had any more details, I'd post them, so don't bother asking for
more . . . (although it's been an experiment sitting in the back of my
mind for awhile; like if I ever think the damn UrQ is running solidly
and reliably again...)
