Audi GT Advise needed / Maserati BiTurbo

Hi everyone,

I am new to the list and need some help. I am a college student in search 
of my first European Sports car. I happen to really like the Audi 5000 
Quattros but they are far from sporty though they made great family cars.

My question is that the Audi GT is the only remotely sporty Audi. How are 
they ? How fast are they ? Are there performance upgrade for them ? Are 
they expensive to maintain ? Please pass along any and all advise on them.
Also, how rare are the 5-speed cars, are they good?

Most of my friends tell me to avoid Audis like the plague because they 
are a nightmare when it comes to electrical problems as well as transmission 
problems. Is there any truth to that ?

My budget is around $5,000 so that rules out the possibility of a Quattro 
Coupe for now. BTW, the Maserati owners that are interested in selling 
their BiTurbos should contact me, I may be interested.
