	If you suspect the wheel bearing, you can check it out by
jacking up the car and shaking the wheel. I suggest you take the
hub cap off and firmly grasp the wheel - one had on top and one on the
bottom and shake the wheel. If you notice any play w.r.t the axle nut,
then that bearing is shot. You can also determine if there is any
significant play in the suspension on that side (bad control arm
bushings, loose bolts, worn tie rod end, ...).

	Given the symptoms, the other thing that comes to mind is a
bad CV joint. I presume you have already eliminated the obvious "loose
lug nuts" that you alluded to.
