he a board member and a major stockholder of porsche though he is not
actively managing the company.  he is also the grandson of ferdinand
porsche..  there's the porsche connection for you.  a porsche descendant is
running vw and audi. 

he was chief engineer at audi during the early days of the quattro and has
been credited for the golden decade 1980-1990 which saw audi elevate from
german ford status into a challenger for bmw and mercedes.  next he became
head of audi before going up to head the VW group, which includes audi.

for that mistake you will get a used 1990 fwd 80... 

the a4 is coming in september, btw, with a 2.8 V6 and a 5 speed slush as
an option.  the 5 valve turbo a4 will come next year, and quattro and
slush will no longer be mutually exclusive options as well.
