I have done this.  It works fine, even if the car is lowered with Eibach 
springs.

Are you driving a Quattro?  If so, this is not recommended since the 
front wheels would turn at different speeds than the rears.  This 
will wear out the centre diff much faster.  Other than that, there would 
be no reason not to.
