My 90Q also ticks, especially when cold.  I also understand that Audi has a Product 
Service Bulletin out on 1988-1991 80/90/5k/5kT/100/200 about noisy valves and failing 
oil return check valves.  If I find out anything more on the PSBs I will post it.
