Shocks for 5000CSTQ

I am posting this message for a fellow quattro owner who does
not have access to the internet.

He just picked up an '86 5000CSTQ with 67K miles for $5K.
Here's his question:

The struts are currently in need of replacement. What are the best
repalcement cartridges from a performance standpoint (firm ride and
handling). Are KONI  shocks better than BOGE. Where is the best
place to buy?

I know this has been covered on the list before. However I did not
follow the discussion closely since my quattros are not currently
in need of shocks.  Well, maybe my 100Q could use a firmer ride.
