I've got a similar situation on the QTC ... the nut at the top of the strut
tower under the hood cannot be tightened without putting a hex key in the
fitting on the end of the strut. I have a 1/2" drive Craftsman ratchet
that has a quick release button on the back for releasing the socket. I
found that it was a simple matter to disassemble the ratchet (held in place
by a snap ring on the socket side), removing the quick release mechanism
and reassembling the ratchet. By removing the quick release mechanism I
created a means to insert a long but otherwise standard hex key into the
strut. The hole was the perfect size for the 6mm hex key. It would be
quite easy to reassemble the ratchet, but I've never taken the time to do
so. I do sometimes think about it when the socket falls off the ratchet.
