Yes. Buy a box of Planters assorted nuts, grate them and feed the squirrels;
tends to keep them quiet for a while :-)
On the other hand, if what you are hearing is a continuous high-pitched
squealing noise that varies with the RPM (almost like a whistle), it could
be the alternator bearings singing. Several people on this list have
reported this. Check if there is play in the alternator pulley. The fix
that I'd recommend is a Bosch rebuilt alternator.

I don't know if we are talking about the same thing here (the nub that you
refer to above) but on my car there is a little bracket the visor snaps
into. This contains the electrical contacts for the lighted vanity mirror;
so if you are thinking of breaking this off, reconsider it.

There have been several posts here about the R&R procedures for these
bulbs, some as recently as 6 to 8 weeks. Check the archives.
