Large viscosity rage lubricants, 10w-40, 15w-50, etc. are really only an
issue with rotten dinosaur juice, due to the rapid breakdown of the
viscosity improvers added to get the wide range. Synthetics can/are
be"brewed" to provide an inherently wide viscosity range with no or
little viscosity improvers, so wide viscosity range synthetics have no
where near the same rapid breakdown problems as the ol' dino' juice. Lack
of viscosity improvers is one of the major reasons that synthetics can be
run for extended drain intervals.
