Repairing 5k door seals
I started prepping my '87 5000s for paint yesterday and was surprised to see
that all of my door seals (save for the driver's door, which I replaced four
months ago) have cracked and split apart at the upper 90-degree corners.
Since it cost me $110 to replace the one door seal, I'd like to repair these
rather than replace them ... the rubber is otherwise in good condition and I
think I can tack them back together with some black trim adhesive. Is there
a better method or anything else I should be aware of before trying this?
For neatness reasons, I plan to remove the seal from the door first and then
remove the rubber tube from inside the seal. Once I've glued it together, I
will reinstall it in the seal channel then glue that together ... with luck,
I'll then reinstall them back on the car and live happily ever after, right?
