Re[2]: DRL's on 5KTQ?

          Scott writes (paraphrasing)

"Convert the inboard parking lights to high wattage halogen
          bulbs."

Well, this doesn't actually get you DRLS, unless you isolate
them from the parking system and switch them, via relay,
with the ignition. If you do this, then you lose parkig
lights in front, which IMHO, is NAGI (not a good idea)

So the alternative solutions are twofold:

          1. Replace the single filament inboard parking light with a
dual filament (and new socket). Run the low filament as
normal parking light, relay the high filament for DRL. This
way you get the brighter DRL to come on automatically with
ignition, and you still get the low wattage filament for
parking lites. Only two concerns here are finding the right
socket (maybe easy, maybe not) and heat. I believe that the
socket is a standard Hella socket...sure seems to match
those on my V*lv*. If it is the swap is easy.

          2. Figger out how the DRLs are enabled on Canadian cars. The
fuse box is no help. There is no dedicated relay for
DRL...instead it piggybacks on 22 or something that also has
another (active) function. There *may* be a relay socket
that gets plugged, but *I* can't figger out which by the
limited info on the box. Anyone out there with a shop
manual and some time on their hands? :)

Sorry to be a PITA on this but I do like the feature of
automatically having lights on whenever the turbo's
spooling, er the engine's running :) (For you banzai
drivers, the good news is that the lights-on mode does clear
the left lane ahead of you. Voice of personal experience
          here <g> )

Thanks for the help. If anyone has any other ideas or access
to a Canadian wrench, please keep me in the loop. I
foolishly called the local Audi dealer and a service person
stated firmly "We don't do anything that we don't do lots
of" At $80/hr no less <PHHHHT>

          Thanks,
