*Hydraulic oil
Jeff,
The subject title is "Hydraulic oil", is it not? I know RedLine is goo
d steering fluid, but lets not confuse it with the hydraulic fluid. And, I'm p
retty sur Robert Phillips was refering to the Hydraulic fluid. We don't want t
o confuse anyone and have them put pwr steering fuid in the hydraulic fluid res
ervior, do we. In the owners manual, it specifically says "Only Mineral Oil" f
or the hydraulic reservior. I'm sure if you put steering fluid in there you wo
uld surely blow the hydraulic pump.
I understand that you were just trying to give advice, but next time you
might want to change the subject heading to "Pwr steering fluid", instead of c
ausing major confusion and potential disaster.
BTW, yes Robert, you can use the Pentosin 7.1CHF fluid--they make it for
Audi, and it is cheaper. I bought mine at the dealership. It is a hydraulic
oil. Make sure you only use this in the hydraulic fluid reservior!
As far as brake fluid goes, Red Line is very good (thanks, Jeff--really)
, especially if you are going to race or autoX. I am using Castrol GTLMA brak
e fluid in my car, and it works great. I noticed that most of the cars tested
in EC magazine used this brand and it's supposedly really good. But, no matt
er what brand of steering fluid you use, remember that it is important to chang
e the fluid at least every 2 years. I would recommend that you have them flush
ed out and all new fluid put in. Just topping it off doesn't really help any.
Just wanted to clear up any confusion,
