One of the easiest ways to remove the shock top nut is to use an air
impact wrench, if you have one. I watched the Audi dealer mechanic
replace the front strut inserts on my '87 5000TQ and this is what he
used to remove and tighten the nut; no need for two tools - the allen
key to hold the shock shaft and another to turn the nut - with this method.
