Yes, the shifter is supposed to light up. It glows red only with the
ignition on and lights on or off(I think). This a simple repair that I did
'cause I'm sorta nit-picky myself. You need to remove the console, and pull
plastic thing(little black thing with an eye pointing up) off the shifter
that holds the light, gently pull the wired light out of it, remove the bulb
and replace with a new one. I had to go the dealer for the bulb. While your
there you might as get some extras. Let me know if you need a better
explanation. The Bentley Manual doesn't cover this. BTW, how the ashtray?
