4000S advice

Hi, 
I am looking for information on the Audi 4000S.  I have had two 
excellent 5000S wagons (currently an '85 with 130K) and am considering
a 1987 4000S as a second car.  The car has 90K miles, body and 
interior are mint.  It runs strong, feels tight, has not been in an 
accident.  I have two concerns:
    
				1. Is there something about this car 
that audi-philes know that I don't? e.g. unusual problems at 100k+ or 
weak links in the mechanics/electrical system.

				2.  I have no access to service 
records as the car is offered by a local garage that specializes in 
used Audi's.  The owner has sold cars to people that I know and all 
have been satisfied with their treatment.  He got this car at the 
Mannheim auction.

    I have one other question.  This car has a chrome overlay on the 
bottom quarter panel of the doors.  It is an audi add-on and looks too
flashy for me.  Is it removable?
