Help on an 82 5KT

Owners/mechanics of the 5KT genre,
   I am looking at purchasing a 82 5KT in the near future.   I have been
informed that the turbo in non-functioning.  Supposedly due to lack of
use while the car has been parked (dead auto tranny).  The owner says
that the aluminum vanes of the turbo have corroded/siezed within the
housing.
   This is new territory for me (turbos), and I am curious if this is a
fatal affliction, or something that some disassembly and cleaning/polishing
would repair?  Any other warning signs I should be watching for when I look
at the car Saturday?  I am aware of the dead tranny and have another lined
up for installation.
