I've been doing some homework on the subject for the past couple of 
years.  First of all, the 4K is more similar to the VW Fox than to the 
Golf/Jetta/Scirocco platform.

Mostly concerning the Fox,

Things that won't interchange for sure:
Struts
exhaust parts before cat. (due to engine orientation)
Body parts (obvious)
sway bars (depending on year and type of end-links)
Transmissions between the G/J/S WILL NOT fit a 4K
Using the above, the Quaife Limited slip from a G/J/S will NOT fit

Things that will interchange for sure:
internal engine parts (1.8L) as long as it's the same type (10:1, 8.5:1)
Starters
Most external engine parts (alternators, heads, ignition, etc.)
Transmissions WILL interchange between a Fox and a 4K (friend did it)

Things that might interchange, but haven't been tested:
supposedly, the shocks/struts on a Fox Wagon are the same as the 4K
Exhaust system behind the cat. might work, still checking on this
aftermarket turbo kits (in my dreams...)

Looking at a Fox, it kinda resembles a stripped down, smaller, 
lower-budget (no offense to Fox owners) 4K series.  A friend of mine has 
a Fox, and the two of us have checked most/all of the things on my "Will 
Fit" list.  the "might fit" list is still pending.
