I think the internal dimensions are the same (i.e., the strut inserts can be
interchanged) but not the external dimensions ... I was looking at a pile of
them at a salvage yard two weekends ago and noticed the spring perch heights
and steering arm locations were slightly different than on the 4000.  I also
noticed that not all strut housings marked "4000" were identical so the yard
either mis-marked them (which is always a possibility) or there're some real
differences between them.  I haven't yet figured out how this can be used to
my advantage, if it all, but rest assured that I WILL soon!
