Viscosity for synthetic oils
Hi,
We've had discussions about how well the synthetic oils work, especially
in the turbo Audis. I don't recall if there were any comments about some
of the different viscosities being offered by the differnt vendors.
Specifically, Castrol has a 5W50 SYNTEC. What comments do any of you have
about running this during the summer months in a 5000 turbo quatto (mine
is a 1987, but it shouldn't really matter...)
Typically, with a normal (dino-oil), a 5W oil is too thin for the summer
months at temperatures above 40F or so... but what about a 100% synthetic
such as this. In a way, I'd think a 10Wxx or maybe a 15Wxx could be better.
Then again, maybe the 5W50 would pump up faster and prevent (??) those
clacking lifters during the first 3-4 minutes of running :-)
Thanks for any comments/opinions!
