RE: turbo groups (was Mist Info TAP)
Hi Linus,
>I'm confused. Are you saying the '84-88 5000 T/TQ group is actually two
>groups, '84-85 and '86-88? just curious.
I am not real sure here on the 84-85 5000T engines. I have not really
checked into these much and am not sure how similar they are to the 86 turbo
engine. I have been looking into the 86-90 engines a bit and am learning
about these, most likely an 86-88 will be transplanted into my TQC. Can any
netters shed some light on the 84-85 5000T engines?
I know the 86-88 5000T engines have a single knock sensor, ECU diagnostic
memory, hydraulic head, water cooled turbo, 20% lighter pistons than the
previous turbo engine which incorporates a revised squish area, a 2.22
displacement(1.5mm larger bore) replacing the 2.1 liter displacement, the
camshaft was also changed, boost pressure is now controlled electronically.
All this resulted in improved engine output specs, 166 ft-lbs at 3000 rpm
and 158 hp at 5500 rpm.
