Electrical problems (what else) for a '91 100 Auto

The indash display of the position of the gear selector is going or so it seems.

When the car starts up, the display is fine, after a while, the display starts
to dim and almost to the point of going dark.  However, if I move up and look
down on the display, I can still see it.  I believe the display is made up of
a LCD and it seems that for whatever reason (most likely temperature or voltagee
) related, the illumination of the display changes and darkens the display
from viewing at the regular driving height.  


Anyone with an auto tranny has seen such a problem ?

Better yet, could someone take a peek into the Bentley manual and see if there
is a pot or something which I can reajust the display brightness or viewing 
angle ?
