Scott, and others,
This 1/2 HP difference (less than one percent here) could easily
be the variability between tests, or from a good set of Splitfires vs. a
bad set of the other brand. I don't think there is very much magic in
spark plugs, but some specific apps are more sensitive to plugs than
typical piston engines. 2-strokes seem to fit this category. Rotaries
too. Remember, the spark will always arc across the shortest point
(point, singular, not points) The additional electrodes are just for
longevity. That was done on the Mazda Rotary. They have 4 ground
electrodes! The later ones went to semi surface gap plugs which have very
many points for the arc to jump across, but only one at a time.
