If everything else is right, sometimes it helps to pull the mercury? bulb
part way out of the evaporator so that the compressor cycles on longer.
Another thing to check is the radiator fan.  Most of the time the fan will
not come on with the rocker switch marked a/c...can't even remember if the
original design worked that way, but your results will be better with a
constant flow of air over the condenser from the radiator fan.
