Not Shifting Into Reverse

Don't recall whether I asked this yet...so I'll give you resident
geniusii a shot at it.

Our 200T (automatic - hey, my wife likes it, so don't start...) is not
shifting into reverse properly. When we put the shift lever into
reverse, it may go in right away or it may wait up to six seconds
before we feel it "catch" in gear. It tends to catch a bit more
quickly when cold.

Our local Audi guy says his guess is a bad seal inside the tranny -
letting hydraulic pressure leak until it catches enough to build up.
he says there are four seals accessible by dropping the tranny belly
pan, and he can replace them for $150. (Our VW/Audi dealer closed
shop suddenly and this gent - his best Audi mechanic - is doing work
on his own while he looks for backing to open his own shop.)

ANYONE ever had a problem like this? Considering that it says A-U-D-I
on the back, I figure $150 is really reasonable for a shot at fixing
it...but I'm always interested in finding out if anyone ha run into
this. The mechanic says he has not seen one do this, so hse's working
on his best guess.

Who knows, it may be hairy green toads from Mars, or even the
sometimes-mentioned failure to sacrifice enough $$ to the Audi gods.
(Hey, we did about $1800 in the last quarter - that oughta be enough
for the summer....)

Comments are appreciated.
