Actually, the use of the term (and I probably cannot spell it much better
than Dave can) predates its use by Volkswagen.  It actually predates
Volkswagen.  Scott Fisher, British car and language fanatic, did some
research on this.  He found it used in a German motoring review way back in
the 20s or 30s.  The car that was being described as providing this pure
enjoyment of driving?  An MG, of course.
