A/C Compressor vacuum cutoff switch

Hi all, 

Has any body ever tried to hook up a vacuum(pressure?)
switch to turn the A/C Compressor off during acceleration
(low vacuum or even pressure situations for the turbo
folks). The switch would sense the low vacumm situation
and interupt the circuit to the compressor.

This would eliminate the A/C drag when accelerating
but allow the compressor to run under cruise or de-acceleration.
A buddy of mine did something like this with another German
car with a low power 4 cyl but I don't know the details. 

Any thoughts?
