87 Coupe GT

Well its been a while since I've posted here.. In my last few
posts I talked about doing some traveling in the ol Audi. Well I did. I
made most of my trips and everything pretty much is ok. I ran into some
of that constuction on the way home from one of my trips. Well I had to
choices either hit the wall or try to straddle whatever was laying in the
road. Well as anyone mos likely would do I tried to straddle the debris.
Well it did end up hitting the underside of the car.. I didn't think much
of it until a couple of days later when I heard a creaking sound when I
started from a stop. I got out and looked. One of those brackets that
hold the tension rods to the sub-frame was gone. Well seeing that it
happened on the road and was not my fault I decided to call my insurance
and tell them I was going to take it for an estimate. Since they are
paying I will go to a dealer. Well after sitting all day waiting on it
they finally took it in and in 20 mins. told me what needed to be
done(dealers are a pain about things like that) the total estimate was
like $1080.69 or something. I need a new subframe and several little
parts along with that. They quoted me a price on a subframe as $575.00
... this is the brunt of the cost I think.... that and the $335.00 labor
anyone have any comments on this.. I was told it could be fixed by
placing a clamp in the torsion bar... but I will never get it aligned
right.... Also being it is an 87 and knowing my insurance company... they
might just want to total it out.... I hope this is not the case.
