Re: Battery drain on '87 5kS

Here we go again: as part of my job as an engineer for a major manufacturer,
I performed battery tests (please, don't ask me where I worked, it's too
embarassing.) I would say that 10% of the batteries we recieved for testing
were defective internally.
Therefore, and with nasty memories churning in my stomach, i would say that
if this wasn't happening before you installed the battery, it's the battery.
(Sherlock would be proud of that deduction.) Take it back to Sears and
DEMAND a new one. They will do it, albeit, very reluctantly. If they balk,
mention the state attorney general's office and they'll lick your shoes
(applicable only in California.)

I have fought battery problems in the past also, and have spent lots of time
chasing electrical problems around the car, checking alternators, cables,
starters, grounds, and usually it ends up being the #%!$# brand new battery!
Just because it's new, and it holds a charge at Sears, don't assume it's OK.

One of the altruisms of auto repair (trumpet fanfare, please): If you put a
new part on a car and it doesn't run/work correctly, ALWAYS suspect the new
part.
